		<description><![CDATA[Management training, a reason why it doesn't work as well as it should.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Management training doesn’t work unless the training is continually consolidated until it becomes a habit.</p>
<p>Whenever I conduct management training I always make sure that there is a continuing programme of contact to make sure that the training is being absorbed.</p>
<p>And I don’t just mean giving delegates my phone number and suggesting they phone if they have a problem.</p>
<p>Often the problem with implementing management training is implementing it back in the office. Equally the manager might think the training doesn’t work if they can’t use it and will avoid phoning for help.</p>
<p>So using a more active approach with training is a much more successful way of getting a habit formed.</p>
<p>In particular I’ve noticed that time management and projects management  tend to go west most quickly as often just one or two from a company are sent to learn the techniques and tactics for success. That means when they try to start using them in their business people are resistant to change. After all they’re “doing OK where they are, why should they change?”</p>
<p>With outside support it makes it easier for the delegate to continue using the techniques and tactics successfully.</p>
<p>Although to be fair I always recommend that a company puts everyone through projects or time management training so they all know how it works and get the same benefits from implementing the techniques. It also makes overall implementation much more effective.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>All the time I’ve been executive coaching I’ve been observing the things that drive people forward to major achievement,.</p>
<p>And it all comes down to 3 things.</p>
<p>Those things are Purpose, Passion and Pride.</p>
<p>Let me explain what each one of those mean…</p>
<h2>Your Purpose</h2>
<p>Every peak performer who has a job, runs a company or owns one truly believes that what they do is important and their purpose is to deliver their service or product to the people they meet. </p>
<p>And that’s not just so they can make sales.</p>
<p>Their purpose is to make a difference in everyone’s lives. By having their service or product they believe to their core that they will help someone be better.</p>
<p>That’s certainly what I believe and that’s why I’m so truly committed to coaching companies to peak performance too. And why I have my role on my business card as “Business Enthusiast.”</p>
<p>So you feel you know your purpose and that you live it?</p>
<h2>Your Passion</h2>
<p>Life is short. Just doing a job, or going through the motions for the weekend means you’re wasting 5 days of your life every week.</p>
<p>You really need to feel that what you do is something you’d actually do whether you got paid or not. </p>
<p>How do recognise it. Look at what you love doing. Listen to yourself speaking, what is it that makes you impassioned, raise your voice or become more passionate. Ask other people you trust, they often see your passion peaking out where you may not.</p>
<p>Whatever it is make sure you’re either doing it now or you have a short route to get to start doing it. And sometimes that means doing it alongside your current job for a while.</p>
<h2>Your Pride</h2>
<p>Pride is a much misunderstand emotion. After all we’re taught that it comes before a fall aren’t we?</p>
<p>That is really arrogance.</p>
<p>What I’m talking about is in the internal pride of knowing that you’ve done the very best that you can do.</p>
<p>It’s knowing that you have delivered the best service, made the best product that you possibly can.</p>
<p>It’s knowing that whilst you always improve yourself, at this moment you’ve done the very best for your customer, client, friend, family or stranger!</p>

Otherwise how could we improve?</p>
<p>However, the carpers, the doubters and the envious we can do without.</p>
<p>Ex-president Theodore Roosevelt said it best,</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”</strong></p>

<p>And that is exactly what business is about. To succeed in business, life or anything you need to &#8220;DO.&#8221; For without action there&#8217;s no forward momentum that powers through the obstacles that life occasionally throws in our paths.</p>
<p>In all the time I&#8217;ve been in business there&#8217;s no doubt that I meet people in one of two mindsets:</p>
<ul>
<li>Those who know they know everything about business</li>
<li>Those who remain open minded and are willing to try new things</li>
</ul>
<p>And often the ones who think they know all about business, or have friends who can point them in the right direction don&#8217;t understand the value of learning things they don&#8217;t know yet. Or of having a coach who holds their feet to the fire when they don&#8217;t deliver on agreements. </p>
<p>The other thing they fail to realise is that if you <strong>pay for advice you pay attention to it!</strong> That means you improve your business. If you don&#8217;t pay you put what&#8217;s said to the back of your mind and nothing changes. </p>
<p> The open-minded try lots of new things, some work, some don&#8217;t. However, if you&#8217;ve implemented a new sales strategy that gets in an extra 10% of new sales isn&#8217;t that better than just staying as you were?</p>
<p>So when people criticise you for taking positive action refer them to the quote from Teddy Roosevelt.</p>

<p>If you do you&#8217;re not alone. In fact you&#8217;re making two time management mistakes which aren&#8217;t even your fault.</p>
<p>The first is that simply filling your day with activity is the wrong way to do it. After all simply doing stuff is a waste of time if it&#8217;s not achieving your own, or your company&#8217;s strategic objectives.</p>
<p>Mistake number 2 is piling more and more stuff onto your to-do list for today. In the end it&#8217;s unlikely that you&#8217;ll actually get done what your to-do list shows you need to do. So your subconscious gets a little despondent when you don&#8217;t finish it. As the days go by it become used to not finishing the to-do list. Then it begins to think that you never need to complete a to-do list. That means the urge to get things done (prompted by your subconscious) begins to ebb away. Until one day you wake up and you get very little done. Your to-do list is as big as ever but it still doesn&#8217;t get done.</p>
<p>These are ways that you&#8217;re told to manage your time. And yet have you ever been asked to look at how you work, what your work rate is, what your best hours are. What your own rewards system is?</p>
