eBay Slashes Digital Download Sales

There’s probably a lot of running around like headless chickens in the eBay sellers community at the moment. Because eBay now says that you’re not allowed to list items “which can be delivered electronically through the Internet.”
The eBay page that covers this is in the section titled Downloadable Media.
That covers software delivered by download, or by purchase of a secret URL, virtual game items (such as characters, accounts and currency) and music, video or ebooks.
I suspect a raft of eBay sellers will be feeling as though their business has just sunk without trace.
In some respects this is a good move, because eBay also says that you can still list digital items if you hold the copyright or the base material is public domain.
That should get rid of people who buy digital stuff to copy and re-sell on eBay which means the original owners can lose hundreds, even thousands of sales.
I tried listing my own book for digital download as a test some years ago but felt very under-protected from a copyright view and stopped listing it. I may well try it again.
So you can still downloadable media on eBay as long as you make it clear you own the copyright.
And if you’re a legitimate seller you can offer your customers a hard copy or a DVD or CD with your material on it. I suspect the cost and effort to ship physical items will cut the cowboys right down.
