Microsoft Founder Bill Gates Closes The Door On An Era

AlbuquerqueGroup1978 Copyrigth Microsoft So it’s happened at the last the iconic founder of Microsoft leaves the company he developed into the global giant it now is.

Many people are Microsoft haters and yet I would credit Microsoft with creating the PC world as we know it. PCs are cheap with a plentiful choice compared to when Bill Gates first started. And it’s pretty much down to Gate’s vision of a PC in every home and on every desk.

I used to work in British Aerospace when PCs first started appearing. To begin with they were little make them yourself electronic kits which required some geekery to get working. Then IBM’s PC exploded onto the scene and my department (Information Technology) purchased a PC for themselves. The one PC sat in a special place in the middle of the department and there was a booking system for the 40 people who might want to use it.

In due course as we all know PCs did go into everyone’s homes and onto every desk. Sometimes people had more than one PC. At this time of writing I’ve got 4 desktop PCs and two laptop PCs. Admittedly 3 of the desktop PCs are 10 or 12 years past their sell-by date and run a mix of Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

So well done Bill and enjoy your “retirement”.
