Still Using These Outdated Buzzwords?
By Jim Symcox on Jan 5, 2007 in Uncategorized
The Manchester Evening News printed a set of what they called the “Top 5 Office jargon Faux-Pas”.
And they were:
- Blue Sky Thinking
- Singing From The Same Hymn Sheet
- Thinking Outside The Box
- Let’s Take It Offline
- Park That Thought
They also reckoned on the following phrases to avoid:
- Getting Down With The Kids
- Open Up Your Kimono
- Let’s Raise The Anchor And Let This One Drift
- There’s No ‘I’ in Team
- Am I Bovvered
I’ve always hated buzzwords. I can still remember thinking what a pillock the person I first heard use “thinking outside the box” was.
They’re a substitute for thinking.
Others I hate include:
- Let’s Run It Up The Flagpole
- Give Me The Ballpark Figure
- Quality Is Number One
- Mission Critical
Give me a break!
Do you know any that actually make sense?
