Strategy Vs Tactics Is Not Right

Strategy vs tactics looked at in isolation is the wrong way to go about it.
Every company has a number of tactics they’re working right now that they would be foolish to throw away.
When you get the opportunity to step back, or use someone like me to help you, you can review and set your business strategy.
That doesn’t mean you throw the tactics you’re currently using that are making you money and getting you clients out.
In fact be very wary if any consultant asks you to do that because it’s money you know you have in the bag.
Of course sometimes you do need to replace one set of tactics with another set because your strategy calls for it. In that case you need to have a game plan in place to allow you to transition into the new tactics.
And by the way…
Sometimes new tactics don’t work like you want them to. That’s the problem with business it’s not a science – otherwise we’d only need one book on how to run your own business!
And if those tactics don’t work it’s important not to get disheartened. You need to examine what’s happening and tweak them, try them again and check. You do need to keep polishing the tactics until they work and can become a proud member of your strategy family.
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much you tweak, prod, probe and check a tactic that you felt was impossible to fail just does not work. Then you need to look at your strategy to see whether a different tactic could achieve the same ends. Then work on getting that tactic bedded in and working.
Too often you find business owners "try" something and in the hurly burly of business life don’t, or even can’t, give it their full attention. The result is the tactic fails and yet with a bit more care it could have gone on to work successfully.
So my point is this, a strategy is important of course, however choosing and tuning the right tactics to fulfil that strategy is equally important. So just coming up with a strategy is very helpful, equally helpful is a set of tactics aimed at achieving the strategy. So don’t rest on your laurels if you’ve designed your strategy allocate resources and get those tactics sorted!
